flooding in......
Hello you
all,
We visited your site to see how you experienced last weekend in Holland and to
see if there where some pictures to see.
You made our queensday spectaculair; It wasn't just a day but a weekend full of
laughter. It started thursdaynight in Te Laat which unfortunately ended in a
trip to the hospital for one of you, but we're glad to know he is ok again.
Queensday and the day after we enjoyed your company as well; it is still the
talk of the town.
We hope to hear or to see (pictures?) more of you.
Marjolein and friends

Stories: Quiet weekend
really.
Rugby:
RFC Alkmaarse, Sat 1 May 2004 with a
2.30pm. Local reporter Arie Van Ringelesteyn wrote this resume of the
match as he saw it:

So near so far as Broughton lose to
Alkmaar.
In a very exciting match
between the rugby players from Alkmaar and Broughton won the home team at the
end with 38-27 after a half-time score of 12-15.
The start in Holland was
not all too well. Mark Brown (tour organiser, prop and club secretary) had
an epileptic seizure and fell badly and was hospitalised for 2 days. He was
released on the day of the match but the doctors had denied him the right to
play. After the match he thanked the doctors in a speech for saving him a lot
off money.
The match started almost
one hour to late because of some transportation problems.
Very quick after the
match started Alkmaar realized that they had a strong opponent but the first
score was for Alkmaar. The Alkmaar full-back Pim van Asperdt caught the
ball after a kick forward from a Scottish player and with a great sprint over ¾
of the field he reached the goal-line and scored a try. With the conversion of
Tijs Roeland took Alkmaar the lead with 7-0.
Very quick after this
lead, Broughton came back when Melvin Hart scored a try. In the three
quarterline they broke through the defence of Alkmaar and with 3 men against one
they reached the goal-line. Melvin Hart should play the ball but he went
for himself. He was tackled by Nanko Molenaar but he scored the try. This
selfish action gave him the nickname “greedy b@stard”.
The conversion was
missed so Alkmaar had still a small lead of 7-5.
Broughton took the lead
for the first time when Duncan Nicolson scored a try after a series of
penalty-kicks. With the conversion took Broughton the lead with 7-12.
Just before half time
scored Alkmaar again when the winger Dimitri de Jong reached the
goal-line and scored a try in the corner of the in goal area. The conversion
was missed and the score was 12-12.
This seemed to be the
half-time score but just before half time referee Joop Zandvliet awarded
Broughton a penalty kick in front of the posts and the goal was an easy score.
The lead became even
bigger when Melvin “the greedy b@stard” Hart scored again. The converted
try gave Broughton a 12-22 lead.
Alkmaar came back when
the Alkmaar number 8 Jelle Molenaar scored from a push-over try. With the
conversion was the score 19-22.Alkaar was at this moment very strong and the
next try was for Nanko Molenaar after a break from winger Jaap
Zandvliet . With the conversion, Alkmaar took the lead again by 26-22.
Again came Broughton
back when Melvin “the greedy b@stard” Hart found a small hole in the
defence of Alkmaar and scored a try. The conversion went against the post so
Broughton had a minimum lead of 26-27.
In the last 10 minutes
fatigue came over the Scottish team and the brothers Molenaar scored a
try each to give a final score of 38-27.
