The
Junior Section celebrates our first Internationalist
Ruairidh Bonner, who played his way through the age groups at Broughton
under the guidance of his father Graham, became our first
internationalist in his adopted country of Belgium. Ruairidh, who
attends the British School of Brussels, made his debut for
the Belgian Schools at under 16 level against a French Provincial
Schools side in November 2003 and to complete a brilliant first outing
for his adopted country, Ruairidh
kicked his side to victory. Broughton Rugby Club is absolutely
delighted at this outstanding achievement.
The season ended well for Ruairidh, he
played in an U17 tournament for the Belgian side winning each game on average by
50 points against Luxembourg, Monaco and Denmark - he was also voted player of
the year.
He also played for the Scottish Exiles U16 team in the Easter break beating both
Edinburgh and The Borders - he particularly enjoyed the win over Edinburgh (he
knew a few of the boys playing for them from his Trinity High School and Edinburgh
Schools Squad
days). The photograph below is of the school 7s team which entered a local senior
tournament in Belgium and won the plate competition. The "old codger" beside Ruairidh is dad Graham who played for Broughton for many years and was a
outstanding coach of the Juniors before moving to Belgium.
