Broughton took little time to shake of the cobwebs of winter inactivity, posting
their try scoring bonus point within 20 minutes against Dick Vet Students at
Peffermill on Saturday.
A potential banana skin if there ever was one in the shape of the Students was
blown away in a 62-0 victory as Broughton ran in 10 unanswered tries to keep top
slot (despite what you may read on the SRU website - they have been told) in the
League by 1 point.

They went that way....
Paul Hamer reached a personal milestone for the
season as his 2 tries and 6 conversions took him over the 100 point mark for the
season. Gareth Payne inflicted pain in a literal sense in last October's
26-0 win at Wardie, this time his damage was done in the shape of 3 perfectly
executed tries.
Further tries by Mike MacLennan, Hamish Martineau,
Duncan Nicolson, Dan Arrandale & Paul Kelly helped Broughton secure their
biggest winning margin of the season.
The result could have, and probably should have,
been greater given the 42-0 half-time score-line but to their credit, the young
Vets frustrated the Broughton side by keeping hold of the ball instead of
kicking it away as per the opening stanza (that means the first half Mel!).
For the statisticians amongst us, this is the 4th
game in a row that our opposition have failed to cross the Broughton line and we
have only conceded 6 points in the same period. The average points against
for the season so far is 9.16 per game whereas we have amassed, on average, 28
points per game.

Vet outfoxed by Turtle
This sets up
a top of the table clash against Penicuik next week at Wardie with Broughton
keen to avenge the last minute controversial defeat in the clash at the Old
Pavillion earlier in the season.
The match kicks-off at 2.30pm and promises
to be a cracker!
With only 6 league fixtures left, the destiny of
the title is in our hands. Your support is vital. We look forward to
seeing you there!
