Beauty & The Beast!

No, the title isn't a 'Guess
which one is which?' but with the Lions heading back from their disappointing
2-1 series loss to the South Africans, Broughton legend Dave Mercer gives some
hints and tips to 6ft 2in, 18st 2lb prop Tendai 'The Beast' Mtawarira when the
World Champions visited Murrayfield last November.

Former
Broughton Player in Guinness World Record bid in New Zealand

News reaches Wardie regarding former Broughton player Paul Maddison, who now
plays in New Zealand for
Wellington Football Club, and a remarkable recent world
record attempt.
On Sunday 14 June the Wellington Club and local
rivals
Poneke (who boast former Broughton Rugby Club Captain Johnny Wells as a
player) joined ranks as they attempted to break the world record for the most
number of rugby tackles in one hour.
The official Guinness Book of World Records
record for this event is 4130. On the 31 May The Nottingham Boots team beat this
record and tackled 4489, this still isn’t official but was definitely the target
to beat.

Maddison gets in position to hit the bag
The teams were the under 85kg
teams from Wellington Football Club and Poneke. Each team was allowed 10
tacklers and as many bag resetters as they liked. A tackle constituted of
knocking the tackle bag to the ground and attempting to put the arms around the
bag.
Final scores for each team were: Wellington
Football Club 2475 & Poneke 2377 = Total tackles 4852, a record well beaten!
The event ended with
helicopter
drop of 1000 mini rugby balls!
